Broadband Cable, Fiber
and DSL providers demand
carrier class performance
when implementing voice
services. Subscribers have
become accustomed to the
reliability of traditional
telephone and PSTN access.
Providers realize the
consequences of
implementing traditional and
untested solutions for
carrying class 5 voice
services over their
extremely reliable networks.
Many providers have a
Class 5 Switch or local
access with either GR-303 or
V5.2 signaling. These
signaling methods provide
the foundation fro
transporting class 5
services with voice bearing
circuits (T1/E1).
The challenge is
converting GR-303 or V5.2
and the T1 or E1 voice
bearing trunks over IP to
subscribers. These
subscribers will have some
type of terminating device
or Intergrated Access Device
(IAD) that provides them IP
and voice interfaces.
To meet this challenge
the
PacketCable™
specification was written
based on the mature MGCP
voip protocol. This
specification provides the
foundation for Class 5
services and VoIP.
These are just a few of
the important functions a
PacketCable™ GR-303 Gateway
performs. Please see our
ORCA product line of
PacketCable™ Gateways
for more information and
specifications.
